As Growth & Innovation Leader for EY, Matt was responsible for driving EY's hypergrowth strategy by identifying and accelerating annuity revenue streams through large-scale ($100m+), complex, multi-partner opportunities, acquisitions, and alliances. He led the development of new IP, methodologies, and ecosystem-based business models to shape the firm's future growth strategy. His team focused on creating scalable industry platforms, innovative commercial constructs, and client venturing partnerships that enabled co-design and launch of new growth businesses. Matt also led senior stakeholder engagement across global alliances, investors, governments, and technology partners.
IBM Ventures was formed to drive the organization's inorganic growth strategy globally. With committed funding of $US1bn per annum, the business focused on different commercial models including acquisitions, ventures, minority investments and ecosystem models. The focus was on building new markets, platforms, and products through accessing leading innovation and capabilities from both within IBM and the external market - all with the aim of accelerating growth. Matt led group strategy, deal sourcing, commercial management and operations - while developing governance frameworks and the infrastructure to enable deal execution and value realization. As market lead for all deal types, he worked closely with internal stakeholders and the external market to design effective business and commercial constructs, collaborating extensively with the PE/VC community, tech ecosystem, high-growth companies, governments, and corporates to source and shape strategic transactions.
As Head of Large Deals, Matt led the design and execution of major integrated consulting deals spanning public and private sectors across multiple geographies, with technology at their core. He focused on shaping market-defining, scalable propositions and pioneering new delivery and commercial models beyond traditional time-and-materials approaches. Combining a ventures mindset with deep expertise in platforms, cybersecurity, identity, and digital, Matt collaborated with third parties and funding partners to deliver innovative, high-value solutions and develop new strategies, business models, and alliances in response to rapid technological disruption.
Matt was tasked with developing new businesses, propositions and solutions in response to the ongoing disruption occurring in the consulting market and in industry generally (minimum deal size of $25m). Matt worked with leading and public and private sector organisations globally to develop ecosystem business models that included: Multinationals/ conglomerates (global); Federal/ State & National Governments/ Agencies (US, Australia, Japan, Singapore); Software Vendors (Global); WEF, UNHCR & WHO; and Venture Capital Funds (Global).
As a Senior Partner and Leader in this competency, Matt was responsible for leading and operating a national team focused on transformation from strategy through to execution. This involved working with all lines of service within the Consulting business to bring a multi-disciplinary approach and also building experience hubs on client sites to ensure the effective transfer of learning.
Matt built and led the Strategic Growth Markets (SGM) capability in PwC. This focused on working with start-ups, scale-ups, UHNW, Family Offices and Funds around strategy & growth, productivity and on creating new value through combining tech, talent and capital together. These had a heavy focus on technology/ ventures and involved extensive work with technology providers, incubators, Government agencies and funding agencies (public & private).
Other roles have included senior leadership roles in advisory firms; boutique advisory roles focused on the start-up and scale up sectors and various Board, Govt and related advisory positions. This involved work in UK, USA, Europe, MENA & Australia/ New Zealand
