DBCI, the Italian rail freight production company of DB Cargo Group (leader in Europe with 20% market share) in joint venture with FNM, is the 3rd largest operator in Italy with 2.6 million train-kms, €81 million revenues and 480 employees. Managing Director in charge of production, service design, education, maintenance/ engineering, safety, human resources and sales. From 2015 to 2022, the company almost doubled in size (93% growth, 10% CAGR) while maintaining high profitability levels (EBIT 11% of revenues) and quality (most punctual railway undertaking in Italy). Added and trained over 200 new staff to support growth. Managed industrial relations for the improvement of labour agreements, reaching ground-breaking agreements (1st in Italy to sign on polyfunctional and interoperable drivers). Introduced new software for the digitalisation of key operational processes such as staff/vehicle planning and rostering, digital train building and wagon inspection, vehicle maintenance management, competence/certification management, automated data recorder analysis, digital payslips and expenses, shunting yard management and business intelligence. Led the introduction/homologation of new locomotive types (Siemens Vectron MS and DC, Bombardier DC3 with diesel last mile, Vossloh G6), the development of the Bombardier E483F variant (first new entrant on the Italy-France Modane corridor), and the purchase of 4 new D744 diesel locomotives. Actively involved in numerous Group strategic projects. Managed institutional relations with e Ministry and other authorities, also as vice president of the FerCargo association. Obtained the new European Single Safety Certificate in February 2020 (5th in Italy).
Arriva Italia Rail, founded in 2012, is a railway undertaking dedicated to the development of regional and medium/long distance rail passenger transport, 100% controlled by Arriva Italia and part of the Deutsche Bahn Group (German federal railways), one of the world leaders in mobility, logistics and infrastructure, with 324 thousand employees and €44.4 billion in revenues. Started up company, obtained Rail License, developed the company’s integrated management system, obtained the Safety Certificates, and started operating in 2016. Promotion of liberalisation at national and regional level, in close cooperation with the national Transport Regulation Authority, the Antitrust Authority and the Infrastructure and Transport Ministry. Cooperated with DB’s international passenger service division for the optimisation of production and marketing. Close cooperation with other Group companies (bus/coach transportation, vehicle procurement, ITC, maintenance) throughout Europe.
SC, founded in 2009, is a rail cargo company and multimodal operator that develops and manages national/international intermodal transport. I led the start-up of the company and was then in charge of the entire operations unit (production, maintenance/engineering, training and planning).
A business Park (Interporto Campano for logistics, CIS for wholesale distribution and Vulcano Buono for retail) covering an area of 4.5 mln sqm and home to 1,000 companies generating a GDP of €12 billion. I covered a cross-function role collaborating with all top managers, in charge of strategic/business planning, and the development of special projects (partnerships, new infrastructural developments, renewable energy).
