Brechin Castle Solar Power: JV between BP, T&T National Gas Co. and Shell; 120 MW; USD 200mln CAPEX. Directed the JV creation, orchestrating multi-party negotiations for foundational agreements with JV Shareholders, T&T Regulator, diverse international EPC contractors (China, Spain), and with State Electricity Company via a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Delivered power plant construction on time and on budget, promoting local content and establishing a safety, environment and security-based culture for the 300 workers on site.
As Senior Member of the Executive Committee, turned around a strategically critical gas & LNG business: 700 staff, 5 gas facilities and 45% shareholder of Atlantic LNG, a JV producing up to 4% of worldwide LNG demand. Established a business strategy aimed at securing a 20-year profitable gas and LNG business via reliable operations, breakthrough gas supply from Venezuela and a staged carbon reduction path. Drove strategic State-Shell negotiations resulting in new standards for in-country gas pricing and value sharing between investors and State. It unlocked multiple capital projects, of which 3 from Shell. Directed as Board Member the delivery of 3 capital projects (CAPEX ca. USD 3bln) and corporate activities such as performance reviews, reorganisations, succession, digital, and local content. Oversaw P&L for gas sales to National Gas Co. and LNG exports (volumes ~35% country gas production). Materially increased value via operational excellence and cooperation between supply chain parties. Supervised the operational implementation in a fast pace 12-month period of the merger and full commercial restructuration of the Atlantic LNG JV with BP and National Gas Co. Improved gas industry reputation as American Chamber of Commerce Exec Board Member and as Shell spokesperson towards Multilateral Agencies, International Financial Institutions and Diplomatic delegations.
Portfolio & Business activities for Europe, Russia and Kazakhstan Business Unit: ~150 staff operating in multi-location cross-functional teams. BU accountability: 14 countries and ~25% of Shell’s global exploration budget. Streamlined the Business Unit’s portfolio through international bids, acquisitions, divestments, JV creation, as well as country/region entry or exit: from ca. 150 exploration blocks down to 70 with higher value and improved synergies with other Business Units in the region. Piloted an ongoing flow of ~40 acquisition and divestment deals, driving simplification, teams’ operational excellence and integration across local, regional and global organisational structures. Initiated a “make or buy” business model shift with investment banks, private equity funds and exploration “pure players”, increasing portfolio options and improving shareholders’ risk/reward allocation.
Held P&L accountability for the supply chain and sale on international markets of 50% of the country’s oil production. Delivered complex negotiations for 5 long-term Government concessions worth USD ~1bln. Recruited, trained and led the first local team dedicated to commercial operations.
Established the preliminary set-up of a USD 2bln State-Shell JV for LNG export, using an innovative floating technology aimed at materially reducing CAPEX and environmental footprint.
Led the origination of gas-based energy infrastructure, including bespoke technical services to Algeria’s LNG plants, an industrial masterplan for Mauritania and gas export options in Gabon.
Conducted risk-based audits across 15+ countries covering manufacturing, trading, supply chain and marketing activities for fuels and lubricants as well as corporate functions such as HR and Finance.
Provided techno-commercial insights for Shell’s 4mln t/y bulk fuel business in France: i) Trading with Total, BP and Exxon, ii) National strategic stocks obligations and iii) Transport by ship, pipeline and train.
Prepared the engineering design of manufacturing processes for projects up to USD 100mln. Contributed to hands-on technical and safety reviews of high-risk industrial infrastructure.
